Etisalat by e& and Huawei Achieve 1.6Tbps Milestone in Optical Transport Network

Etisalat by e& and Huawei announced the completion of the world’s first trial featuring 1.6Tbps per wavelength on an optical transport network.
e&The trial signifies etisalat by e&’s readiness in steering transmission technologies towards the 100T network platform, a crucial step in advancing hyperscale cloud computing. This aligns with the 10 Giga UAE Initiative, aimed at delivering 10 Gbps connectivity to individuals, residences, and businesses across the region.

Etisalat by e&’s test of 1.6Tbps per wavelength technology in partnership with Huawei underlines the company’s commitment to establishing one of the most advanced and resilient networks in the UAE.

Specifically, this technological leap showcases the capabilities of the 1.6Tbps on the DC-centric OSN 9800 Kepler platform. It caters to the demand for capacity stemming from cloud-based business services, enhanced home broadband, and 5G services. It reduces per-Gbit power consumption by 65 percent compared to existing industry platforms.

“The 1.6Tbps innovation is a testament to our relentless focus on delivering exceptional services, marking a significant milestone in our network transformation journey,” Khalid Murshed, Chief Technology & Information Officer at etisalat by e&, said.

“Huawei remains dedicated to technological innovation and research, supporting etisalat by e& in its quest towards a 100T network,” Victor Zhou, President of Huawei’s Optical Transmission Domain, said.
