Telecoms form AI technology alliance to bolster customer experience

In a groundbreaking move, four major telecommunication giants – SK Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, e&, and Singtel – have joined forces to create the Global Telco AI Alliance. This alliance aims to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to revolutionize customer experiences and positively impact the lives of people around the world.
Jio smartphone customersThe members of the Global Telco AI Alliance have committed to collaborating closely to accelerate the integration of AI technology into their existing telecom business models. Additionally, they will collectively work on developing innovative AI-powered solutions to drive new growth opportunities.

A significant milestone in this endeavor was reached as the four telecom leaders gathered for a Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony in Seoul, Korea. Executives from each company, including Claudia Nemat, Board Member Technology and Innovation at Deutsche Telekom, Hatem Dowidar, Group CEO of e&, Yuen Kuan Moon, Group CEO of Singtel, Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, and Ryu Young-sang, CEO of SKT, attended the ceremony either online or in person.

The primary goal of the alliance is to jointly develop the Telco AI Platform. By leveraging each member’s technological expertise and capabilities, the platform is expected to serve as the backbone for new AI services. These services will include enhancements to existing telecom services, digital assistants, and super apps offering a diverse range of innovative offerings.

“In order to make the most of the possibilities of generative AI for our customers and our industry, we want to develop industry-specific applications in the Global Telco AI Alliance,” Claudia Nemat from Deutsche Telekom, said.

To ensure effective collaboration, the Global Telco AI Alliance will establish a Joint Working Group. This group will engage in detailed discussions concerning co-investment opportunities and the co-development of the Telco AI Platform, with a view to reaching a definitive agreement. Moreover, the alliance plans to designate a C-level officer from each company to coordinate the overall collaboration.

Furthermore, the member companies intend to extend support for each other in operating AI services and applications within their respective markets. This collaborative approach will contribute to building a robust AI ecosystem that benefits customers across the globe.

“Through collaborative efforts, we will accelerate AI transformation of all industries, provide new value and experience to our customers, and lead the growth of the global AI ecosystem,” Ryu Young-sang, CEO of SKT, said.

As the Global Telco AI Alliance sets its sights on a future empowered by AI technology, the telecommunications industry and customers worldwide eagerly await the groundbreaking advancements that this collaboration will bring.
