Tele2 has strengthened its long-term mobile network strategy in Lithuania by securing new spectrum licenses in the 700 MHz and 1500 MHz bands while renewing its existing 2100 MHz spectrum in the latest auction conducted by the Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania (RRT). The operator will invest €9.8 million in the spectrum acquisition, with €4.6 million scheduled for payment this year.

The new spectrum assets will support Tele2’s ongoing 5G rollout and future network expansion as demand for high-speed mobile broadband continues to grow across Lithuania.
Tele2 Secures New 700 MHz and 1500 MHz Spectrum
Under the auction, Tele2 acquired 2×5 MHz of spectrum in the 700 MHz band and 1×20 MHz in the 1500 MHz band. The company also extended its existing 2×20 MHz license in the 2100 MHz band.
All three spectrum licenses are valid until 31 October 2042, providing Tele2 with long-term spectrum resources to enhance network capacity, improve coverage, and support next-generation mobile services.
5G Expansion Targets Growing Customer Demand
Tele2 said the newly acquired frequencies will enable targeted expansion of its mobile network, particularly in regions experiencing rapidly growing customer demand.
The operator’s 4G network currently covers 99.9 percent of Lithuania’s territory through more than 1,600 base stations, while its 5G network already reaches 90.2 percent of Lithuania’s population.
The addition of low-band 700 MHz spectrum is expected to improve wider-area coverage and indoor connectivity, while the 1500 MHz spectrum will help increase network capacity and support higher data traffic on 5G networks.
Strategic Investment Supports Long-Term Network Growth
Tele2 Baltics CEO Petras Masiulis said the spectrum acquisition represents an important milestone in the company’s long-term network strategy, enabling continued 5G development while improving connection quality across Lithuania.
With an investment of €9.8 million, including €4.6 million payable in 2026, Tele2 has secured valuable spectrum assets that will support mobile broadband growth through 2042. Combined with its existing infrastructure of more than 1,600 base stations, 99.9 percent territorial 4G coverage, and 90.2 percent population coverage for 5G, the new licenses position the operator to accelerate network expansion and deliver enhanced connectivity across Lithuania.
