SK Telecom, China Unicom sign MoU on 5G technology

SK Telecom, China Unicom sign agreement on 5G technology
SK Telecom announced its agreement with China Unicom to focus on areas such as 5G technology, international roaming, platform, and startup support.

China Unicom and SK Telecom will conduct studies to promote standardization and commercialization of 5G.

The cooperation between the two companies will make roaming more convenient and affordable for travelers. According to the Korea Tourism Organization, 6.13 million Chinese visited Korea, and 4.18 million Koreans visited China in 2014.

SK Telecom and China Unicom will share information on their platforms, which includes platform-related products/services and OTT services, and work together to create market opportunities. SK Telecom aims to introduce its Next-Generation Platforms in China.

“China Unicom will collaborate with SK Telecom to generate tangible outcome that will lead to enhanced customer value and future growth of the two companies,” said Lu Yimin, president and vice chairman of China Unicom.

Jang Dong-hyun, president and CEO of SK Telecom, said the agreement is aimed at making efforts to develop new joint business opportunities.
