NTT Docomo launches 5G NR-DC service across three frequency bands

NTT Docomo has announced the deployment of New Radio-Dual Connectivity (NR-DC) across three frequency bands to enable high-speed transmissions between two 5G base stations.

This advanced technology will leverage the Sub-6 bands (3.7GHz and 4.5GHz) and the millimeter-wave band (28GHz), promising download speeds of up to 6.6Gbps using 5G Standalone (SA) architecture, starting August 1.

The initial rollout will be in select zones within Tokyo and Kanagawa’s 5G SA coverage areas. Customers seeking to benefit from these high-speed services must have a 5G SA subscription, a compatible device, and a suitable SIM card. NTT Docomo’s 5G SA mode is an optional service available for certain smartphones and other mobile devices under a 5G service contract.

NTT Docomo has been at the forefront of 5G innovation, launching its 5G SA services in December 2021. By August 2022, the company had begun combining one of the two Sub-6 frequencies with the millimeter-wave band, delivering maximum download speeds of 4.9Gbps and upload speeds of 1.1Gbps. This latest enhancement, which integrates both Sub-6 frequencies with the millimeter-wave band, aims to boost transmission speeds and improve user experience.
