Reliance Industries CMD Mukesh Ambani today announced that Reliance Jio has designed and developed a complete 5G solution.
Mukesh Ambani on Reliance Jio digital life“This will enable us to launch 5G service in India using home grown technologies and solutions. This Made-in-India 5G solution will be ready for trials as soon as 5G spectrum is available and can be ready for field deployment next year,” Mukesh Ambani said addressing RIL’s annual general meeting.

Reliance Jio engineers can upgrade its existing 4G network to 5G network easily thanks to the converged, all-IP network architecture.

“Once Jio’s 5G solution is proven at India-scale, Jio Platforms would be well positioned to be an exporter of 5G solutions to other telecom operators globally, as a managed service,” Mukesh Ambani said.

Mukesh Ambani indicates that Reliance Jio is ready to take on leading telecom equipment makers such as Huawei, Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung and ZTE. Samsung is the networking partner of Reliance Jio for rolling out 4G network across India. Reliance Jio is the largest mobile operator in India.

Communications industry association GSA said 388 operators are investing in 5G networks in the form of tests, trials, pilots, planned and actual deployments.

100 operators have announced that they have deployed 3GPP-compliant 5G technology in their networks.

With multiple announcements of 5G launches in recent weeks, GSA said it now counts 84 operators in 36 countries/territories that have launched one or more 3GPP-compliant commercial retail 5G services.
