Telefonica, Ericsson offer fixed wireless internet on 4G in Peruvian Amazon

Telecom service provider Telefonica Peru has tied up with Ericsson to provide internet access via 4G LTE to governmental entities such as schools and healthcare centers in the Peruvian Amazon during 2015.

This is a joint project for Telefonica and Ericsson.

Ericsson said this is the first project in Latin America to use 4G technology as fixed wireless internet access in remote rural areas with difficult geography, such as that of the Amazonian jungle.

Cesar Linares, general manager, Telefonica Peru, said: “This project is crucial for the development of the country, since it connects rural areas with the rest of Peru and the whole world. Connectivity brings innumerable benefits that translate into socio-economic development, especially in remote and inaccessible areas.”
