Sunrise, Switzerland’s leading telecom operator, has announced its key achievements for the second quarter of 2024.

Subscriber Growth:

Sunrise added 31,000 mobile postpaid subscriptions.

The company also saw a rise in broadband growth, adding 5,000 Internet subscriptions, marking the second consecutive quarter of broadband growth. This growth was driven by continuing commercial momentum and a significantly reduced churn rate, with initiatives aimed at increasing customer loyalty and satisfaction.

Financial Performance:

Revenue increased by 0.5 percent to CHF 737.5 million.

Consumer mobile subscriptions revenue rose to CHF 301.7 million (+2 percent), supported by the growth in postpaid mobile subscriptions and a general price increase implemented a year ago.

The Consumer fixed business generated revenue of CHF 279.1 million, a decrease of 2.7 percent year-over-year, due to lower monthly subscription income from right-pricing in the existing customer base.

Revenue in the B2B segment, including mobile and wholesale business, reached CHF 149.1 million (+5.9 percent), driven by the lower-margin wholesale voice business, good performance in the MVNO area, higher revenue for mobile and data subscriptions, and the integration business.

Investments and Network Expansion:

Capital expenditure (Capex) reached CHF 126.4 million, representing 17.1 percent of its revenue. Investments were made in network expansion, product innovations, and services. Sunrise did not reveal the number of 5G customers.

Sunrise now reaches over 95 percent of Swiss households with fixed broadband offers (including 5G fixed wireless access) of 1 Gbit/s and more.

Starting August 2024, Sunrise will increase the maximum Internet speed on the HFC network from 1 Gbit/s to 2.5 Gbit/s, covering around 80 percent of Swiss households with this offer.

Contract Renewals and New Partnerships:

Sunrise Business renewed its contract with Swiss Post for landline and mobile services, and also gained Migros (SD-WAN services) and landline phone services for SBB.

CEO Statement: Andre Krause, CEO of Sunrise, said: “We remain on track with our financial results and fully confirm our 2024 guidance. The price-increase effect will no longer be visible in the second half of the year. We expect positive effects from cost optimization and increased customer loyalty.”

Customer Base:

As of June 30, 2024, Sunrise had:

2.88 million mobile customers (3.327 million including second SIM cards)

1.192 million broadband customers (1.264 million including SMEs)

1.186 million TV customers (1.259 million including SMEs)

Fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) penetration reached 59 percent, an increase of 0.9 percent. Sunrise is driving the growth of FMC convergence rate within its customer base through cross-selling and upselling of convergent products and additional services, such as cybersecurity.

Transformation and Future Focus: As part of its transformation from telco to techco, Sunrise Business is focusing on the provision of GenAI-supported managed services, the cloudification of SMEs, and the managed workplace for companies.
