Qualcomm inks 3G/4G license deal with Digibras Group

Telecom Lead America: Qualcomm and Digibras
Industria do Brasil have entered into 3G and 4G license agreements, the first
such agreements with a major Brazilian consumer electronics supplier.

 

Digibras Industria do Brasil S.A. is an owner of the
brands CCE Info and CCE Mobi.

 

Under the terms of the agreements, Qualcomm has granted
CCE worldwide with royalty-bearing patent licenses to develop, manufacture and
sell 3G WCDMA and TD-SCDMA, and 4G OFDMA subscriber units and routers.

 

The company said that the royalties payable by CCE are at
Qualcomm’s standard worldwide rates.

 

“This agreement enables CCE to develop and
manufacture 3G and 4G products such as smartphones in Brazil and sell
them worldwide, which will help make Brazil a stronger force in the
global economy and give Brazilians greater access to information, education,
healthcare, and each other,” said Derek Aberle, executive vice
president and group president of Qualcomm.

 

The company said that these agreements with Digibras
Group in Brazil will help drive the acceleration of mobile broadband
penetration and the development of next generation wireless technologies in the
country.

 

“We look forward to developing highly competitive
3G/4G products and contributing to promote Brazil’s digital agenda,
applying updated technology in smartphones, tablets and other smart devices.
For the consumer, this partnership ensures the high-end technology in his
phone, easy access and navigation through mobile devices,” said Roberto
Sverner, president of Digibras Group.

 

Qualcomm Q2 income up 28% to $4.94 billion

 

Recently, Qualcomm posted revenues of $4.94 billion, up
28 percent, during the second quarter of fiscal 2012 ended March 25, 2012. The
strong revenue growth was driven by demand for 3G- and 4G-enabled devices
across both developed and emerging regions.

 

Net income at $2.23 billion, was up 123 percent y-o-y.
