Polkomtel to launch Wi-Fi calling trial in Poland

Wi-Fi calling users
Polkomtel, a telecom network operator in Poland, will start the public trial of its Wi-Fi calling service in the country.

Mobile subscribers of Polkomtel can make regular calls on Wi-Fi calling network when connected by Wi-Fi in locations with poor mobile coverage. The common voice core for VoWiFi and voice over LTE (VoLTE) enables a smooth evolution of voice services.

During the trial period, the Wi-Fi calling service will be available to Plus users in Poland and across the European Union.

Polkomtel has tapped Nokia Networks for its Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) solution. The telecom service provider is conducting the trial as part of launching the services. Polkomtel, during the trial phase in select locations, will collect feedback from customers.

“The purpose of the trial with Nokia Networks is to fine-tune this innovative service to a degree that cannot be reached through lab testing. Our next goal is to integrate VoWiFi and VoLTE as an ultimate solution for voice services,” said Justyna Kulka, director of the Offer Management Department at Polkomtel.

Polkomtel has 16.4 million subscribers for mobile telephony, pay TV and Internet access.
