Huawei drives Scartel to deploy VoLTE with SRVCC solution

Russian telecom operator Scartel in association with Huawei has deployed VoLTE (voice over LTE) with a SRVCC (Single Radio Voice Call Continuity) solution.

Scartel can support voice calls on its 4G LTE network as Huawei’s SRVCC enables LTE voice call continuity in 2G/3G networks without any perceivable interruptions for the end user.

With VoLTE, voice calls can be established in only two seconds, much faster than traditional 2G/3G network setups.

“Huawei provides an end-to-end network solution for Scartel that covers the radio access network, Circuit Switch (CS) core network, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), Evolved Packet Core (EPC), and Huawei’s Ascend P1 smartphone,” said Scartel CEO Egor Ivanov.

Russian 4G market growth

According to Infonetics Research, 12 commercial networks with the ability to support 8 million subscribers using VoLTE are expected to be deployed worldwide by the end of 2013. Huawei is involved in implementing VoLTE for the majority of these networks.

Meanwhile, Huawei leads commercial network deployment of 4G / LTE 1800MHZ, according to GSA. According to a GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) report called Evolution to LTE, 69 of 156 commercial LTE networks deployed utilize 1800MHz spectrum.

Huawei’s Single RAN LTE solution has been deployed on 41 (59 percent) of these commercial LTE 1800MHz networks in 32 countries. The increase was over 331 percent as commercial LTE 1800MHz networks was 16, according to GSA’s 2012 report.
