Vodafone users face nationwide disruption of services; BlackBerry India users affected for third day

While BlackBerry services in India continue to face disruption for the third day in a row, Vodafone has been the most hit network, and at the time of filing this report, there has been a widespread disruption of Vodafone  services in the country wherein even non-BlackBerry subscribers have been affected. Services affected include voice calls, billing and re-charge and internet services, due to a technical failure of Vodafone servers in the country.

According to an official statement released by Vodafone , BlackBerry subscribers may be experiencing ongoing issues with BlackBerry services in India and other countries. RIM has identified the issue, is clearing the backlog of data, and is working to restore services as quickly as possible.”

With close to 1 million BlackBerry subscribers in India, RIM  said that message delays were caused -by a core switch failure in RIM’s infrastructure which has now been resolved’. However, BlackBerry customers are still receiving message alerts from their respective operators stating that RIM has identified the issue and is working to resolve the same. According to an RIM statement, Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible.”

While in other nations like Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Africa, Brazil, Chile and Argentina, BlackBerry services have now been restored, in India, there has been no relief thus far.
