Vodafone to invest Rs 3,000 crore in West Bengal

Telecom operator Vodafone India will be making an investment of Rs 3,000 crore over next three years in West Bengal for enhancing network capacity and new business initiatives.

Vodafone India, in a bid to address the demand for mobile Internet speed and mobile coverage, has invested Rs 1,040 crore in FY 2016 in West Bengal. Vodafone has 419  branded stores spread across prominent localities in the in West Bengal state.

Vodafone India signed the MoU on the sidelines of Bengal Global Business Summit 2017 in order to strengthen Vodafone’s leadership position in the state by offering customers a SuperNet experience through enhanced network capacity and by creating more employment opportunities.

“We are enthused with Government’s vision of creating Bengal a business hub and keen to be a partner in its delivery. Vodafone India serves more than 2 crore customers in Kolkata and West Bengal circles,” said Arvinder Singh Sachdev, business head – Kolkata and West Bengal Circle.

Vodafone has invested Rs 8,400 crore in the West Bengal state including Rs 200 crore in the first half of 2017 towards upgrading the network. Vodafone is a leading employer in the state and provides direct / indirect employment to 1,500.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Saturday that the Bengal Global Business Summit has received investment proposals worth Rs 235,290 crore. Manufacturing sector netted investment commitments of Rs 61,765 crore.

Among other major sectors, ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has attracted business proposals of Rs 50,710 crore, urban development got Rs 46,600 crore, transport Rs 38,801 crore, IT, ITes and telecom Rs 18,540 crore, power and NES Rs 3,600 crore and mining got Rs 1,580 crore.
