Videocon withdraws bid for CDMA spectrum for the 800 Mhz band in 2G spectrum auction

Telecom Lead India: Videocon has withdrawn its bid for the CDMA spectrum (for the 800 Mhz band) in the upcoming 2G spectrum auction.

The company had applied for both GSMA and CDMA spectrum. For 800 MHz band (CDMA), Tata Teleservices and Videocon have deposited over Rs 22.5 crore and Rs 220 crore, respectively.

Recently, TelecomLead.com reported that Airtel has deposited Rs 102.75 crore, Idea Rs 1,306.75 crore, Vodafone Rs 229 crore, Videocon Rs 648 crore and Telewings (Telenor) Rs 1,096 crore for the 1800 Mhz band (GSM).

Loop Mobile, Reliance Industries, Reliance Communications, Aircel and MTS India did not submit their applications.

The poor response is due to high reserve price for spectrum.

Due to the recent Supreme Court order, Videocon Telecommunications, along with six other telecom operators, lost mobile license in 21 circles in India including Delhi, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Gujrat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh(West), Uttar Pradesh (East), Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, , Bihar, Orissa, Assam, North East, Jammu & Kashmir.

The 2G spectrum auction is expected to take place on November 12.

The final list of bidders will be announced on November 6. This will be followed by a mock auction on November 7 and 8 and thereafter the e-auction of 1,800 MHz band will take place on November 12.

The start of e-auction of 800 MHz band will happen two days after close of the 1,800 MHz band auction.
