Vodafone Hutchison Australia and TPG Telecom have completed their merger in Australia. The merged entity will trade under the name TPG Telecom at the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).
Vodafone Hutchinson Australia and TPG Telecom aim to take on Australia’s leading telecoms Telstra and Optus.
TPG’s founder David Teoh will chair the merged group and current Vodafone boss Inaki Berroeta will be managing director and CEO, according to media reports earlier.
TPG is Australia’s second largest internet service provider (ISP) with more than 1.9 million subscribers. It also owns iiNet and Internode. Vodafone is the country’s third largest mobile operator with six million subscribers.
The merger is also expected to boost Vodafone’s efforts to rollout 5G mobile technology.
Both TPG and Vodafone Australia have signed a joint venture agreement to acquire a 5G spectrum at auction by the federal government in October.
