TeliaSonera firm Moldcell acquires radio spectrum for 25.5 mn euros

TeliaSonera on Wednesday said it subsidiary Moldcell in Moldova has acquired new licenses and radio spectrum for 25.5 million euros.

The technology neutral frequencies will be valid for a 15-year term starting November 6, 2014.

Moldcell, which has over 1 million subscriptions, providing 4G, mobile ID and mHealth services, among others, will continue using frequencies in the 900 MHz band and has purchased new frequencies in the 800 MHz and 1,800 MHz bands.

Moldcell will abandon its earlier used frequencies in the 2,100 MHz and 2,600 MHz bands.

“This investment is a sign of our commitment to continue providing the people in Moldova with high quality services and access to the best mobile coverage, latest technologies and innovative solutions. We have high ambition to further improve our position in the Moldovan market,” said Erik Hallberg, executive vice president and head of Region Eurasia.
