Telenor offers music and video streaming services

Telenor video and music services
Telecom network operator Telenor India announced music and video streaming services to its 48 million subscribers.

Telenor customers can access videos from sites like Hungama Music and Eros Now. Currently 22 percent of Telenor’s subscribers use data services on their mobile devices. Telenor targets this to grow to over 50 percent by 2017.

“Almost 60 percent of data users access entertainment applications on their mobile. As digital services company, we want our customers to download and watch videos or listen to music in a hassle-free manner,” said Amaresh Kumar, chief product officer, Telenor India.

The price of video starts from Rs 2 to Rs 28, while the validity is from one day to 28 days. The cost of music service will start from Rs 41 and come with a validity of 28 days.

Telenor mobile subscribers can use the new service pack to temporarily cache their online video overnight (11 PM to 7 AM) and enjoy the buffer-free experience during periods of low or no connectivity. To prevent any bill shock if the caching continues after 7 AM, the customers will be charged at 2p/20 KB with a cap of Rs 5 for that day.

Telecom research report says over 32 percent of Internet traffic comes from music, and 34 percent of those accessing online music do it on their mobile phones. 40 percent of users watch videos at night as the networks are relatively free and speeds are better.
