Telenor CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas to step down in 2016

Telecom service provider Telenor today said its CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas will continue for one more year as the head of the company.

This indicates, Telenor will have a new CEO from 2016 January.

In a statement, Telenor said its board has asked CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas, who turns 60 years in November, to prolong his contract throughout 2015. Baksaas has accepted the offer from Telenor.

As of January 1, 2016, Baksaas will act as special advisor to Telenor for 12 months, reporting to the board.

Baksaas became the CEO of Telenor in 2002.

He started his career at Telenor in 1989 and has held a number of important positions in the company, such as CFO and senior executive vice president, Telenor website said.

Baksaas has since the summer of 2001 held the position as deputy CEO.

In January 2013, Telenor said Jon Fredrik Baksaas was named one of the world’s top 100 CEOs according to Harvard Business Review.
