Telefonica Brasil to increase Capex in 2014

Telefonica Brasil is planning to increase capital spending (Capex) in 2014 to about 18 percent to 19 percent of revenue.

The Brazilian telecom operator will focus on deploying more high-speed fiber optic cable in Sao Paulo state.

In 2013, the main focus of Telefonica Brasil was on improving quality assurance, 4G coverage and fiber. Last year, the mobile service provider invested R$ 6.0 billion as Capex.

Telefonica Brasil said its total accesses grew 0.9 percent to 92.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The Brazilian telecom operator’s fixed voice accesses recorded quarterly growth of 123 thousand accesses in Q4, while fixed broadband net gain recorded 39 thousand accesses in 4Q13, growing specially in FTTH.

Mobile ARPU recorded annual growth of 4.5 percent in 2013, stimulated by the growth in Data ARPU in the same period.

Total net revenue increased 5.1 percent q-o-q and 2.4 percent in 2013.

Mobile services revenue rose 5.3 percent y-o-y in the quarter and 6.1 percent in the year.

Data and VAS revenue was supported by the growth of mobile internet revenue, which increased by 35.1 percent in Q4.
