Sunrise UPC uses PowerStar solution to cut mobile network power usage

Sunrise UPC has launched its energy saving solution called PowerStar in its 5G radio network to increase the energy efficiency of its 5G mobile network.
Sunrise 5G networkSunrise UPC said it is using PowerStar to reduce the electricity consumption of its 5G mobile network by around 4 GWh per year, which is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of a small Swiss commune with around 650 inhabitants.

PowerStar is based on automation technology and achieves significant electricity in the supply of mobile sites, the system equipment and at all network levels. Sunrise UPC offers the fastest and most reliable 5G network in Switzerland.

“With the innovative PowerStar solution, we are able to save more than 12,000 kWh of our mobile network power consumption per day. This reduction to the energy consumption neither affects the 5G customer experience nor the performance of the fastest and most reliable 5G network,” said Elmar Grasser, CTO of Sunrise UPC.
