Sprint signs retail venture with Dixons Carphone

American telecom network operator Sprint announced 50:50 joint venture with Dixons Carphone, a consumer electronics retailer in Europe, to open and operate up to 500 new Sprint-branded stores across the U.S.

The companies’ pilot program launched last year resulted in strong sales performance and increased customer satisfaction ratings at retail stores in trial markets.

Sprint, a telecom venture of SoftBank of Japan, served more than 58.4 million connections as of December 31, 2015, behind Verizon Wireless and AT&T.

“Sprint is committed to providing the best possible experience for our customers and that begins at the retail store level,” said Marcelo Claure, Sprint CEO.

In a former joint venture with Best Buy, the company helped launch Best Buy Mobile and the Geek Squad program.

Recently, Sprint announced a deal with newly formed Mobile Leasing Solutions to address cash needs related to device leasing.
