Primus Australia in association with Huawei unveils business fibre network

Primus
Australia, a part of Primus Telecommunications Group, announced it has
completed the first stage of its fibre network transformation, introducing
Optical Transport Network (OTN) capabilities.

The
enhancements, which are initially focused in Sydney and Melbourne, include the
implementation of OTN/DWDM network to aggregate lower bandwidth services and
optimize fibre utilization. Additional near term plans include further optimization
of the technology through the development of state-of-the-art products and services,
with an immediate focus on the expansion of its commercial product offerings.

“Primus
Metro Fibre will now be positioned to penetrate new market segments in the key
capital cities through offerings of high demand, leading edge products and
services,” said Tom Mazerski, CEO of Primus Australia.

Future
plans expand these capabilities beyond Sydney and Melbourne into the top five
capital cities in the country. Primus Australia anticipates this phase of
development will allow the company to lead the competition and introduce new
advanced lightwave products and services to commercial, enterprise and
Government customers.

“Huawei’s
OTN network technology will allow for optimisation of current IP Traffic across
the Primus network, ultimately enhancing the end-user experience,” said Peter
Rossi, CTO of Huawei Australia.

Telecom
customers, such as data centers and financial institutions who have been
seeking reliable, low latency fibre access not only within local markets, but
intercity throughout Australia, will have a superior solution available for
their data traffic. Primus Metro Fibre is designed to deliver state of the art,
high capacity data services that will be both cost effective and efficient
through the redundant ring architecture.

The
upgraded and enhanced OTN network will use the Huawei OSN 8800 platform which
will allow the delivery of high speed, low latency inter-capital bandwidth
built on the shortest routes available, tying the entire network together on a
single Transport Platform.
