Orange Romania will be upgrading its existing long-haul microwave transport network to enhance 4G network capacity and performance.
4G network coverage of Orange Romania reached 70 percent of the population and 96 percent of urban locations after launching the LTE service in 2012 in Bucharest.
Orange Romania provides up to 300 Mbps broadband speed in six major cities of Bucharest, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Galati, Iasi and Timisoara as well as Bucharest’s metro rail network.
“We are committed to evolving our network to provide the highest capacity and quality to our customers as we expand our service offer,” said Ionut Dobrescu, head of Infrastructure Expansion of Orange Romania.
Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 9500 MPR nationwide across Romania, replacing its existing microwave transport links. The French telecom network vendor, which will be part of Nokia in a $17 billion deal, will also provide the 5620 Service Aware Manager.
The mechanical compatibility between Alcatel-Lucent legacy products and the 9500 MPR will allow for the reuse of passive equipment, yielding significant TCO savings compared to a new installation. The 9500 MPR offers superior capacity for legacy TDM and new Ethernet traffic, supporting 2G, 3G and 4G LTE services.
Alcatel-Lucent will also carry out installation and commissioning, migration, deployment and maintenance services.
Meanwhile, EBlink and Alcatel-Lucent will expand existing commercial and technological agreement by adding an innovative service play to their portfolios.
