Ooredoo plans investment in AI and C-SON to transform network

Ooredoo Group deputy CEO Waleed Al Sayed at MWC 2018Ooredoo Group announced the start of the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to transform its network towards 5G.

Engineers at P.I. Works, a technology company, will assist Ooredoo to significantly enhance the mobile data experience to its more than 160 million customers.

Mobile phone customers of Ooredoo will benefit from widespread network coverage, more advanced mobile apps, enhanced capacity during mega-events, and better quality 5G-based Internet of Things services.

CXO level executives at Ooredoo Group are in the process of expanding mobile broadband capacity and coverage by re-purposing network spectrum. Ooredoo is using Centralised Self-Organising Network (C-SON) solutions to enhance their network coverage, capacity, and end-user quality – as part of its strategy to reduce network complexity.

Network solutions company P.I. Works will make Ooredoo Group one of the world’s first communications groups to launch Centralised Self-Organising Networks (C-SON) across its operating companies in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia.

“Network management and optimisation are issues facing communications companies. We are now pioneering artificial intelligence approaches to transform our network, enriching people’s digital lives and enabling our customers to enjoy the Internet,” Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, group chief executive officer of Ooredoo Group, said.

Ooredoo Group’s operating companies Indosat Ooredoo in Indonesia and Ooredoo Myanmar have already deployed P.I. Works’ C-SON platform uSON, with strong results in optimising efficiency and costs. Ooredoo Group is expected to roll out the uSON platform across all of its operating companies during 2018.
