Ooredoo Maldives bags ISP license, targets biz customers

Ooredoo Maldives

Ooredoo Maldives has received an Internet Service Provider (ISP) License from the Communication Authority of the Maldives (CAM).

The new license will enable Ooredoo Maldives to offer a range of fixed line services, including business and home Internet, Ooredoo Fibre and Ooredoo Cloud. Its main target will be business community.

The company received the license after a competitive bidding process. Several domestic and foreign telecoms participated in the bidding.

Ooredoo Maldives offers 2G Edge, 3G, 3G+ and 4G services. It was the first company to launch a self-service mobile application, revolutionizing the country’s services and driving the market to reach international standards.

Nasser Marafih, group CEO of Ooredoo, said: “Receiving this ISP License will enable to bring positive changes to the quality and affordability of the Internet for the people of the Maldives.”

Ooredoo Maldives achieved 52 percent increase in revenue for the first half of 2015, as well as a substantial increase in net profit.

Meanwhile, Ooredoo Maldives has deployed Easy Macro, a small macro base station that supports high capacity mobile Internet needs and enhances the customer experience across densely populated areas. The device improves indoor coverage for data and voice services across 3G+ and 4G LTE networks.
