Nokia today announced EUR 1.36 billion frame agreement with telecom network operator China Mobile.
The acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent assisted Nokia to strengthen the presence in the Chinese telecom market. Nokia competes with Ericsson, Huawei and ZTE to sign the agreement with China Mobile, the largest telecom operator in the world base on subscriber base.
The one-year frame agreement covers all of 2016. With this, China Mobile will be the first telecom operator to deploy Nokia’s AirScale Base Station.
The frame agreement is aimed at assisting the Chinese mobile operator to transition to a flexible cloud network infrastructure. China Mobile is making the investment for providing connectivity that will more efficiently meet the growing data demands of its subscriber base.
Nokia will deploy its 5G-ready AirScale Base Station, which allows multiple radio technologies to operate simultaneously in one base station and offers virtually unlimited scalability to support 5G speeds and IoT demand.
Nokia will also provide additional elements of its mobile radio access and core portfolio in addition to fixed access, IP routing and optical transport, customer experience management, operational support system (OSS) and third party products as well as its global Services expertise.
China’s 620 million Internet users of 688 million use mobile devices to connect. Mobile phones were the most popular choice for 71.5 percent of new users accessing the Internet in China during 2015.
