MTS India revenue dips 14% to Rs 352 crore, net loss at Rs 644 crore in Q1 2013

Telecom Lead Asia: Sistema Shyam TeleServices (MTS India) has posted 14 percent decrease in revenue to Rs 352 crore in the first quarter of 2013.

Revenue growth was impacted due to MTS India’s exit from 13 circles and regulatory uncertainties.

Since MTS India closed down operations in 13 circles in the first quarter, the company is likely to report significant reduction in revenue in coming months.

However, the company’s outgoing CEO says MTS India is confident of its strategies and business growth.

“The operating environment for SSTL finally became stable by the end of Q1 2013, with the company participating in auctions and winning spectrum in 8 circles. The key focus now is to drive growth across all business lines in a profitable and sustainable manner, in sync with company’s data centric voice enabled strategy,” said Vsevolod Rozanov, president and CEO of Sistema Shyam Teleservices.

The telecom operator’s net loss was Rs 644 crore, decreasing 22 percent in the first quarter of 2013.

MTS India says its non voice revenues contribute 35.7 percent of quarterly revenues.

Blended mobile ARPU of MTS India increased 2.5 percent to Rs 81 in the first quarter of 2013.

MTS India’s minutes of usage increased 10 percent to 295 during the quarter.

Data card subscriber base of MTS India for the quarter declined 12 percent to 1.56 million subscribers. In the nine operational circles the data card subscriber based fell by 1 percent, mainly due to new subscriber acquisition policy.

MTS India’s mobile subscriber base declined 20 percent quarter-on-quarter and reached 11.92 million.

Non-voice revenues — from both data and mobile VAS — for the quarter declined 13 percent to Rs 125 crore.

OIBDA loss for the quarter was Rs 211 crore.
