Maxis to invest $284 mn for network modernization and 4G

Maxis, a telecom operator in Malaysia, recently said it will invest at least RM 1.1 billion or $284 million as Capex to complete its network modernisation, drive 4G LTE expansion, as well as improving capacity and quality.

Maxis said its 4G LTE population coverage reached 41 percent of the population and covering key market centres and state capitals. The target is to reach over half of the Malaysian population by year-end.
Maxis 4G LTE investment

The process improvements and network performance have led to increase in the number of revenue generating subscribers to 12.2 million. Maxis has 9.1 million mobile Internet users in Malaysia and its smartphone penetration stood at 65 percent this quarter.

Maxis in July said that it invested RM260 million in Q2 2015 to support network modernisation, LTE expansion and capacity upgrade to support traffic growth.

Service revenue of Maxis for Q2 2015 rose 2.2 percent to RM 2,094 million. Profit after tax grew 6.6 percent to RM485 million.

Maxis Surfing and streaming driving data consumption

Mobile data traffic of Maxis grew 83 percent. At present, Maxis has 1.9 million LTE 4G users in Malaysia with average data consumption of 2.2 GB per month. Maxis said average data consumption of postpaid users is 1.5 GB per month and prepaid 1.2 GB.

Meanwhile, NetCracker Technology today announced Professional Services deal with Maxis to support Resource and Inventory Management solution platform and introduce new capabilities on the upgraded platform.

The new deal is a multi-year extension, said NetCracker.

NetCracker has also delivered its Resource & Inventory Management solution to Maxis — offering NetCracker Framework, Resource Management and Service Management modules — to achieve better network utilization, faster deployment of services and ROI on its network investment.
