Telecom Lead Asia: Mobile giant China Telecom has entered
into an association with Ubitus, a provider of cloud gaming solutions, to bring
cloud gaming on connected TVs in China.
At the Tianyi (E-surfing) 3G Handset Fair & Mobile
Internet Forum, both companies announced the partnership to launch the world’s
largest cloud-based gaming service.
It is expected that China Telecom will launch this
service in October 1st 2012 during the Chinese Golden week holiday.
Both these companies are collaborating with Skyworth,
KONKA and LG to demonstrate the premier HD gaming service over cloud at the
Fair.
“China is one of the biggest and fastest
growing economies and gaming markets in the world. With our cost-effective
cloud solution, time-to-market strategy and proven commercialization records
with other tier 1 carriers, Ubitus will be the first commercial cloud gaming
solution for China connected TV market,” said Wesley Kuo,
CEO from Ubitus.
Presently, console manufacturers are not allowed to
introduce their products into China due to local regulations. These
local regulations are also applied to foreign game publishers and developers.
However, the connected TV market is expected to expand to
53 million households by the end of 2013 with a CAGR of 130 percent, mainly
encouraged by the policy of Fixed Mobile Convergence from Chinese authority.
