Telecom Lead India: The State-run mobile service
provider BSNL has partnered with Dimension Data and launched its Internet
Data Centers (BSNL IDC). The teleco is targeting revenues of Rs 100 crore in
the first year.
Through these Internet Data Centers, BSNL will offer managed co-location, managed hosting
and cloud services, which have been built by Dimension Data for BSNL.
Located in Mumbai, Faridabad, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Ludhiana
and Ghaziabad, the six data centers are Tier III level data centers.
Dimension Data will also operate and manage these centers, which are located in
Mumbai, Faridabad, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Ludhiana and Ghaziabad.
There is a potential of Rs 300 crore in the data center
business. In the first year, we are looking at Rs 100 crore in revenue, which
will be shared between BSNL and Dimension Data. However, BSNL will get the
revenues from bandwidth services,” said Kiran Bhagwanani, CEO of Dimension Data
India.
Dimension Data estimates data centre market in India
is growing at a CAGR of 22 per cent and will touch Rs 6,500 crore by
2016.
“These IDCs will enhance BSNL’s comprehensive service portfolio to meet
the communications and IT needs of large as well as small businesses in India.
It will facilitate various organisations to quickly induct IT-enabled services
without the hassles of setting up and maintaining their own data centers,”
said BSNL Chairman and Managing Director R K Upadhyay.
BSNL has already signed contracts with three government organisations for
managed hosting and cloud services, according to Times of India.
The Communications and IT Minister Kapil Sibal said that
this public-private initiative will leverage the strength of BSNL in
telecom infrastructure and vacant buildings and that of Dimension Data in
providing data center and cloud computing.
BSNL cash reserve declines to Rs 2,500 crore in 2011 from Rs
30,000 crore two years ago
Last year’s annual results raise worries of the
cash-strapped state-owned telecom provider BSNL, as its cash reserve dwindled
to Rs 2,500 crore in 2010- 2011 from Rs 30,000 crore two years back.
