bSkyb leads UK Broadband market with 212,000 new additions in Q1 2012: Strategy Analytics

Telecom Lead Europe: UK-based bSkyb, a triple play
services provider, is leading the UK broadband market with the addition of
212,000 broadband subscribers in the first quarter of 2012, reveals Strategy
Analytics.

However, the triple play services provider has been
observing a decline in its Pay TV subscriptions. In Q1 2012, the company
expanded its pay TV subscriber based with merely 15,000 new subscribers.

In Pay Tb segment, bSkyb has constantly been observing
slow growth. The research firm says that low number of new Pay TV subscribers
marks a new low in Pay TV subscription

However, Strategy Analytics estimates that the whole U.K
market will add 90,000 Pay TV subscribers by the end of 2012. Additionally, it
says that the Broadband segment will keep surging by the end of 2012 with
expected 425,000 additional Broadband subscribers.

Many of the company’s new video products, such as Now
TV,” rely on Broadband for delivery. bSkyb is thus banking on the idea that
consumers will choose its Broadband service to provide this connectivity,” said
Jason Blackwell, director, Service Provider Strategies (SPS) at Strategy
Analytics.

With new addition to both segments, bSkyb now has more
than 10.2 million Pay TV subscribers and 3.8 million Broadband subscribers.

The main reason behind the surge in Broadband segment is
bundle services offered by bSkyb. The bundle services helped the company to
increase its average revenue per user (ARPU).

Strategy Analytics notes that Broadband growth will
remain a key foundation of bSkyb’s new multi-product, multi-platform strategy
and is crucial to the long-term success of the company.

The Olympic games and European soccer championship
should help drive demand for Broadband and Pay TV services, contributing to the
growth in our forecast,” said Richard Fontes, analyst in the Service Provider
Strategies group.

NDS VideoGuard Connect enables BSkyB to take TV service to
iPhones and iPads

Last year, BSkyB selected NDS VideoGuard Connect for its
Sky Go services. Sky Go provides access to Sky content across multiple
devices.
