Airtel revenue up 8% to Rs 24,960 crore in Q4 fiscal 2016

Telecom network operator Bharti Airtel today said its revenues grew 8.4 percent to Rs 24,960 crore in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2016.

Airtel generated Rs 18,328 crore (+9.9 percent) from India and South Asia and $4,059 million (+3.1 percent) from Africa telecom business.

Mobile data revenues increased 43.7 percent to Rs 4,434 crore.

Net income of Bharti Airtel for the fourth quarter increased to Rs 1,290 crore from Rs 1,255 crore.

Fourth quarter revenues of Airtel India increased 11.7 percent – supported by an increase of 11.9 percent in mobile and 23.5 percent in Digital TV.

Mobile data revenues of Airtel India grew 44.5 percent to Rs 3,357 crore – fuelled by increase in the data customer base by 25.5 percent and traffic by 69.4 percent.

Mobile broadband customers increased by 79.9 percent to 35.5 million from 19.7 million. Data ARPU has moved up by Rs 21 to Rs 196, led by 31.0 percent increase in usage per customer. Mobile Data revenues now contribute to 23.3 percent of Mobile India revenues against 17.6 percent.

Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO, India & South Asia, Airtel, said: “Our focus on network and customers has resulted in a strong year of 12.4 percent Y-o-Y growth. Solid execution has resulted in an acceleration of revenue market share even as our non-mobile businesses continue to grow smartly and now contribute materially to the overall Airtel growth story.”

With the proposed spectrum acquisitions from Videocon and Aircel, Bharti Airtel will be the only pan-India 2G/3G/4G operator.

Airtel Africa

Africa revenue of Airtel grew 5.9 percent. Data revenues increased 43.1 percent to $ 161 million.

Data revenues of Airtel Africa contribute to 15.7 percent of overall Africa revenues against 11.5 percent in the corresponding quarter last year.
