Telecom network operator Bharti Airtel said its revenue increased 7.9 percent to Rs 25,546 crore in the first quarter ended June 30, 2016.
Profit of Bharti Airtel dropped 30.8 percent to Rs 1,462 crore.
Mobile data revenue of Airtel was Rs 4,640 crore (+34.1).
Gopal Vittal, Bharti Airtel CEO for India and South Asia, said: “The year has begun well with revenue growth of 10.3 percent Y-o-Y and continued revenue market share gains.”
Airtel India
Airtel India revenue reached Rs 19,155 crore (+10.3 percent).
Airtel India achieved growth of 9.1 percent in mobile, 11.0 percent in homes, 22.2 percent in digital TV and 10.4 percent in Airtel Business.
Mobile data revenue of Airtel India was Rs 3,525 crore (+35.1 percent). Airtel India achieved 19.1 percent increase in the data customer base, while data traffic grew 54.9 percent.
Bharti Airtel has 36.6 million (+68.3 percent) mobile broadband customers in India till June 2016.
Data ARPU of Airtel has increased by Rs 21 to Rs 202 in Q1 fiscal 2017, fuelled by an increase of 28.1 percent in usage per customer.
Mobile data revenues of Airtel now contribute to 23.7 percent of mobile India revenues against 19.2 percent.
Airtel Africa
Airtel’s Africa business revenue grew 3.8 percent. Data revenue of Airtel Africa was $154 million (+31.2 percent) – led by 26 percent increase in data customer base and 106.2 percent growth in traffic. Data ARPU of Airtel Africa increased to $3.2 from $3.1.
Data revenue of Airtel Africa now contributes to 16.5 percent of overall Africa revenues against 12.9 percent.
Airtel Money has a customer base of 8.6 million, boosting the transaction value on Airtel Money platform by 62.0 percent to $5.1 billion.
Bharti Airtel said its consolidated net debt excluding the deferred payment liabilities to the DoT and finance lease obligations has decreased to $6.891 billion from $7.451 billion in the previous quarter.
Bharti Airtel has sold towers in 11 countries (with 9 closed and 2 to be closed shortly) and divested 2 telecom operations in Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone – for $ 3.25 billion.
