Telecom equipment maker ZTE on Wednesday announced that it bagged a major deal from China Unicom for building IMS network.
With this deal, the mobile equipment maker, which competes with Huawei, Ericsson, NSN, Alcatel-Lucent, etc. has become the leading partner in the construction of IMS network of China Unicom.
China Unicom did not disclose the name of the other IMS equipment vendors.
Without disclosing the financial details, ZTE said it would build China Unicom’s IMS network in 10 northern China provinces and cities including: Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Henan and others.
As part of the IMS network deal, ZTE will reconstruct China Unicom’s current fixed network into an IMS network on a large scale.
China Unicom, which competes with telecom service providers such as China Mobile and China Telecom, will gradually deploy applications such as VoLTE and RCS (Rich Communication Suite) into the network.
The aim of the network investment is to develop to a fully-convergent FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence) architecture and improve the comprehensive full-service operation capabilities of China Unicom.
