UK to okay Huawei’s $494 mn chip development centre

Telecoms equipment maker Huawei Technologies is expected to receive planning permission this week to build a $494 million research and development centre in Britain’s Sawston village.
Huawei smartphone retail shopThe facility, 11 km from Cambridge, will be built for researching and developing chips for use in broadband, the Sunday Times newspaper reported.

The development assumes significance as Huawei is currently facing big challenges in supplying its 5G network equipment to UK based telecom operators. UK has recently capped the supply of telecom network from Huawei.
