Telecom start-up GenXComm closes $7 mn funding led by Intel Capital

GenXComm team in AustinGenXComm, a telecom start-up based in Austin, has closed $7 million Series A investment round led by Intel Capital.

Existing and new investors such as Azure Capital Partners, Bandgap Ventures, Capital Factory, FAM Capital Partners, Lip-Bu Tan, UT Horizon Fund and WS Investment Co also participated during the initial round of funding.

GenXComm, which is in the process of commercializing technology to improve the performance and capacity of communications networks, said its patented simultaneous self-interference cancellation (S-SIX) technology will enhance the potential of the spectrum used for cable and Wi-Fi networks and 5G.

Telecom operators can use S-SIX to reduce or eliminate interference which prevents a simultaneous high-powered transmission and a low-level reception to co-exist on a single frequency or channel at the same time.

The benefits of the patented S-SIX technology include doubling the effectiveness of the available and limited spectrum by enabling talk while listen, and increasing network performance up to 30x for dense environments.

Sriram Vishwanath is the co-founder and CEO of GenXComm. Hardik Jain is the co-founder and inventor of GenXComm.

“The explosion of smartphone usage and internet bandwidth is pushing the limits on mobile network architecture and available spectrum,” said Sriram Vishwanath, co-founder and CEO of GenXComm.

GenXComm aims to use the latest funding in order to expand the company’s R&D team focused on S-SIX technology, which enables full-duplex links for Cable (DOCSIS), Wi-Fi, 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT).

“Full duplex technology has the potential to have a tremendous impact in a number of areas that are important to Intel, including Wi-Fi, Broadband Access, and 5G,” said Dan Artusi, vice president and general manager, Connected Home Division, Intel.
