Red Hat, a provider of open source solutions, has made several announcements at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona.
Samsung
Red Hat announced an extended collaboration with Samsung to offer a virtualized radio access network (vRAN) solution with enhanced integration and automation capabilities. The technology will be designed to help service providers better manage networks while addressing the demands of 5G via increased flexibility and operational efficiency.
Service providers will be able to use this solution to realize a faster return on investment (ROI) while helping to mitigate the production risks of building consistent and regulatory compliant deployments and operations across potentially tens of thousands of sites.
Customers can then use the platform to build innovations based on private 5G, multi-access edge computing (MEC), 5G core networks and more.
Disaggregated RAN components are powered by robust computing functions that require a consistent cloud infrastructure. Service providers need to validate that each RAN component works together to support end users.
NVIDIA
Red Hat announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to deliver radio access network (RAN) deployments on industry-standard servers across hybrid and multicloud.
Red Hat OpenShift, an enterprise Kubernetes platform, supports NVIDIA converged accelerators and the NVIDIA Aerial SDK for software-defined 5G virtual radio access networks (vRAN) and enterprise AI applications.
This delivers a composable infrastructure to customers, enabling them to better meet the data demands of compute-heavy applications for edge computing, private 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and more, with greater flexibility and interoperability, risk mitigation and a faster return on investment.
In the coming year, Mavenir, a network software provider, will implement Red Hat and NVIDIA technology for its AI-on-5G solution.
