Optical network market dips 5 percent to $3 billion in Q3 2014

The global optical network hardware market including SONET/SDH, WDM dipped 5 percent to $3 billion in Q3 2014, said Infonetics Research.

Out of this, WDM equipment revenue rose 4 percent. Infonetics Research said that strong WDM spending trends waned in North America, and EMEA continued to decline.

North America stopped spending heavily in the optical market in Q3 2014.

Optical equipment spending

The optical market in Europe dipped due to a weak macro economy. The optical market in the Asia Pacific region has declined by double digits on a sequential basis.

The report said Alcatel-Lucent, Ciena, Cyan, Infinera and NEC achieved positive results in the global optical equipment market during the third quarter of 2014.
