Nokia Networks has appointed Markus Borchert as senior vice president, Market Europe.
Borchert, who will be based in Munich, Germany, was president of Nokia Networks’ Greater China Region and instrumental in establishing Nokia Networks as the #1 non-Chinese telecom vendor in the overall Chinese 4G market. Nokia Networks competes with Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei and ZTE in Chinese telecom market.
He will report to Ashish Chowdhary, executive vice president and chief business officer of Nokia Networks.
The appointment is part of Nokia Networks’ recently announced new Customer Operations (CO) structure.
Nokia Networks works with major telecom operators such as Deutsche Telekom, MegaFon, MTS Sistema, Orange, TeliaSonera and Vodafone in Europe.
Nokia Networks has R&D in Europe. Some of its largest technology centers, which are working on future mobile broadband technologies, are in Europe. One of Nokia Networks Global Delivery Centers is in Portugal.
Geographically, the market region is stretching from western Greenland to Kamchatka in Russia’s Far East, and from the Svalbard Islands near the North Pole to the southern tip of Israel, comprising 50 countries.
In the third quarter of 2014, Europe had 14.7 percent of LTE or 4G connections globally, compared with 43.2 percent in Asia Pacific and China and almost 39 percent in the United States.
