Nokia inks optical deal with WorldLink for 100G transport network

nokia-event-in-2016Nokia said it will supply its 1830 PSS (Photonic Service Switch) DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology to WorldLink for upgrading 650-km-long backbone network to support entertainment and enterprise services in Nepal.

Sanjay Malik, head of India Market at Nokia, was instrumental in signing the optical platform deal with WorldLink.

WorldLink, a fixed broadband operator in Nepal with 120,000 residential broadband subscribers and 5,000 enterprise broadband circuits, will gain from intercity network that stretches from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa and Birgunj.

The 100G transport network, which provides international connectivity between Nepal and other countries including India, is now connecting  10,000 residential Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) service subscribers every month.

Nokia said its optical network technology will allow WorldLink to increase its network capacity, reach and density.

“This is our largest project to date and it will allow us to provide ultra-fast broadband services for our mobile and fixed network subscribers in cities as well as rural areas across the country,” said Samit Jana, CTO of WorldLink.
