Netgear leads the wireless LAN SOHO segment in Q2 2011

In the second quarter of 2011, overall wireless LAN revenues grew 24 percent over the same period last year, driven in large part by exceptionally strong Enterprise WLAN growth of 40 percent, according to Dell’Oro Group.

Enterprises are generating an increasing percentage of WLAN vendors’ revenues as a result of these high-growth trends. These same devices are driving demand in SOHO environments, benefitting vendors such as Netgear, Cisco and DLink, ranked #1, #2 and #3 by revenue share in the SOHO segment.

Dell’Oro Group recently reported that NETGEAR revenue grew 40 percent year-over-year in 1Q11 in SOHO segment of wireless LAN market globally.

According to the report, Buffalo and NETGEAR established new high levels for SOHO revenue during the first quarter of 2011, with Buffalo growing more than 30 percent and NETGEAR growing more than 40 percent, versus the same quarter last year.

All three segments, service provider mesh, enterprise, and small office, home office (SOHO), were up year-over-year by double-digit percentages during the quarter.

“Large wins drove exceptional sequential quarters for some vendors, including Motorola Solutions, up over 100 percent and Alcatel-Lucent, up over 80 percent,” said Chris DePuy, analyst of Wireless LAN research at Dell’Oro Group.

This is an indication of how important WLAN is becoming to enterprises and service providers – that a handful of wins can register in the tens of millions of dollars for any single customer in any given quarter.

Also, during the second quarter, the Enterprise WLAN market posted its largest sequential growth in shipments since 2004, according to Dell’Oro Group.

There is a growing importance in the so-called “carpeted enterprise” of the iPad and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) phenomena.

The Dell’Oro Group Wireless LAN Quarterly Report offers complete, in-depth coverage of the Service Provider, Enterprise, and SOHO markets with tables containing manufacturers’ revenue, average selling prices, and unit shipments by the following wireless standards: 802.11g, 802.11a/g and 802.11n.
