Prysmian Group recently announced the beginning of integration with General Cable, while Furukawa Electric said it is starting fiber manufacturing unit in Morocco.
Prysmian starts General Cable integration
Prysmian Group has started its integration with General Cable becoming the world leader in the energy and telecom cable industry.
Milan-headquartered Prysmian Group will have sales of over €11 billion and nearly 30,000 employees at 112 plants and 25 R&D centres in over 50 countries.
Prysmian Group will generate approximately one third of the sales from North America. The North American head office will be located in Highland Heights, Kentucky, and it will have 23 plants throughout the region with about 5,800 employees.
Valerio Battista, chief executive officer of Prysmian Group, said integration the companies’ cultures, business segments, geographical markets, production facilities and staff functions are the priorities.
“With the aim of identifying and retaining top talent, we conducted a selection process based on the best people for the job principle, ensuring equal opportunities to people from Prysmian and General Cable,” said Fabrizio Rutschmann, chief human resources officer of Prysmian Group.
Furukawa Electric
Furukawa Electric said the opening of its manufacturing facility in Morocco addresses the strong demand for fiber optic cables.
The group’s development strategy aims to increase its production capacity by 20 percent in 2018. The aim of Furukawa Electric is to be the world’s leading provider of fiber-based solutions.
The creation of this campus required an investment of 200 million dirhams and has created more than 85 skilled jobs.
“Consumer demand for better internet connection experiences has led to the proliferation of hyper-scale and edge data centers, 5G wireless, and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH),” Timothy F Murray, senior vice president of Furukawa Electric and chief executive officer of OFS.
