The solution, consisting of Ericsson Cloud Packet Core, will support KDDI’s focus on accelerating the digital transformation of corporate customers.

KDDI can enhance operation automation, including delivery and integration processes (CI/CD) thanks to container-based microservice architecture and its automation capabilities.

Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core will empower KDDI to support the development of new 5G use cases for mobile broadband users, enterprises and industry partners. It will support KDDI’s recently announced enterprise-focused KDDI 5G Business Cocreation Alliance.

“Ericsson’s cloud-native dual-mode 5G Core enables mobile communications to reach new levels and society to benefit from digitalization in a 5G world,” Chris Houghton, head of Market Area North East Asia, Ericsson, said.

KDDI selected Ericsson as a 5G radio access network (RAN) vendor in September 2019 and went live with commercial 5G services earlier this year.

Ericsson currently has 118 commercial 5G agreements or contracts with unique communications service providers and supports 72 live 5G networks worldwide.
