Huawei set to invest $2 billion in India, $150 million for R&D center in Bangalore

Telecom Lead India: Huawei, China’s leading telecom gear
maker is all set to invest $2 billion over the next four years in India.

As more 4G-LTE rollouts are pending in the Indian market,
Huawei sees good potential for them and bets high on getting new contracts from
the 4G license holders.

The company has already deployed 4G LTE network for
Bharti Airtel in Bangalore.

The company posted $1.5 billion in revenues from India in
2011-12 and targets more than 50 per cent share of the contracts coming in.

Huawei India chief executive officer Cai Liqun said that
2011 was a good year for Huawei, as revenue in India increased about 20 per
cent.

Most of the Indian revenues were earned through its
network business driven by 3G deployment and network expansion by operators.

In the wake of uncertainties in the Indian telecom
sector, the company will vigorously market consumer devices. The company posted
$300 million revenue earned from devices like handsets, dongles and set top
boxes.

Last year, we began building a new R&D centre in
Bangalore, which will house more than 5,000 people. From 2011, the plan is to
invest USD two billion in five years in India.” Liqun said.

Huawei is investing $150 million in the Bangalore
facility, which is expected to become operational from June 2013.

Last year, Huawei also unveiled its global service
resource centre (GSRC) and global network operations centre (GNOC) in
Bangalore. These centers cater to Huawei’s clients across 140 countries.

Huawei claims that the company has 45 percent
market share in providing equipment and services to Indian telecom operators
and now it wants to further consolidate its presence in India.
