Telecom equipment vendor Huawei has bagged a mobile broadband deal from Nextel Peru, a part of Entel Group, a mobile operator in South America.
As part of the deal, Huawei will build a nationwide GSM/UMTS/LTE mobile broadband (MBB) network that will cover Peru.
The Chinese mobile equipment vendor will provide its Active Antenna Unit (AAU) solution for highly integrated radio units and multi-band antenna products. The network will also be the first commercial deployment of Huawei’s AAU solution in South America.
In July 2013, Nextel Perú acquired a 4G spectrum license. The nationwide MBB network will cover nearly all of Peru, including its capital city Lima, and aims to cover all of Nextel Peru’s subscribers.
Huawei AAU solution facilitates rapid site deployments, and provides site space savings of up to 75 percent space on rooftops, towers and poles compared to traditional solutions.
Ying Weimin, GSM/UMTS/LTE product line president for Huawei’s Wireless Networking Business Unit, said: “The AAU solution is another Huawei solution that effectively reduces site complexity and enhances network capacity.”
Huawei has already supplied AAU solution to by more than 30 operators for their pre-commercial or commercial networks in China, Europe, Canada, South America and Russia.
