Huawei leads WDM market in Q1 2014, ahead of Ciena, Alcatel-Lucent and ZTE

Chinese telecom network vendor Huawei is leading the Wavelength Division Multiplexer or WDM market in the first quarter of 2014, ahead of Ciena, Alcatel-Lucent and ZTE.

However, the year-on-year growth of Huawei was 6 percent against Ciena 18 percent, Alcatel-Lucent 8 percent and ZTE 32 percent, said Dell’Oro Group.

Dell’Oro Group said WDM market, comprising long haul and metro applications, grew 12 percent in the first quarter of 2014. Telecom service providers’ strategy to add network capacity has assisted the WDM market to grow.

The number of 100 Gbps WDM line card shipments more than doubled versus the same period last year, said the report.

Jimmy Yu, vice president of Optical Transport research at Dell’Oro Group, said: “While total optical market demand has entered positive growth during this period, the WDM market stands out as the true beneficiary of the increased investment. Furthermore, as 100 Gbps WDM transmission rates enter mainstream use, we don’t see an end to its growth.”
