Huawei becomes founding member of Cyber Expertise Forum

Telecom network vendor Huawei is the founding member of the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE).

Global Forum on Cyber Expertise will have members from private companies, intergovernmental organizations and governments. The aim of GFCE is to work towards ensuring a free, open and secure cyberspace to minimize the disruptive threat of cyber-criminality.

John Suffolk, group chief security officer of Huawei, said: “We have long advocated for global standards in the area of cyber security. GFCE is, we believe, a key step in the right direction towards that ultimate goal.”

The GFCE will be consistent with international laws, the Charter of the United Nations and other internationally-recognized conventions. The international forum will focus on sharing of experience, expertise and best practice, initially in four key areas: cyber security; cybercrime, data protection, and e-governance.

“Huawei joining the GFCE is an example of private companies working alongside governments and intergovernmental organisations in the GFCE to build cyber capacity around the world,” said Bert Koenders, minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.

Huawei said the global forum work towards addressing the cyber threat related issues to ensure that people and business can have confidence in digital technology.
