Fibrecomm selects Ciena for network expansion

By
Telecomlead Team:
Ciena Corporation announced
that Fibrecomm Network, Malaysia’s network carrier, has selected its
solutions featuring advanced optical technologies that include 40G, OTN
switching and directionless ROADMs.

The selection is part of Fibrecomm Network’s expansion
project of network infrastructure.

Fibrecomm is deploying Ciena‘s 6500 Packet-Optical
Platform, which integrates advanced coherent optics, automated OTN, packet and
SONET/SDH switching, control plane, and unified network management.

Fibrecomm selected Ciena’s advanced optical
technologies because they provide a more reliable and agile network
infrastructure that can meet our customers’ needs where 10G is barely enough to
fulfill the continuous demand. With Ciena’s proven platform that is scalable to
multiple 10G/40G, even 100G, we are well equipped to stand apart from our
competition,” said Ang Meng Hee, CEO, Fibrecomm Network.

Fibrecomm will also deploy the 6100 Multiservice Optical
Platform for aggregation of lower speed SDH traffic.

The company said that the deployment began in December
and already includes several live network segments.

Our close cooperation with Formis to expand
Fibrecomm’s network highlights the significant potential in the Malaysian
market, which is estimated to have strong growth in total broadband connections
over the next few years. Ciena’s Intelligent Packet-Optical solutions give
Fibrecomm additional capacity and the ability to scale to meet their customer
needs,” said Anthony McLachlan, VP and general manager, Asia Pacific, Ciena.

Under the expansion project, Fibrecomm offers a focused
range of connectivity and application services designed to cater the needs of
service providers, including wavelength, bandwidth, IP, Ethernet and colocation
and project management and consultancy services.

Project rollout and deployment of this network
enhancement is jointly managed by Fibrecomm and Formis, a regional Ciena BizConnect partner
based in Malaysia.

 Recently, Ciena announced
that e|net, a company that manages the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
program on behalf of the Irish Government, selected
Ciena’s 3916 and 3930 Service Delivery Switches to improve
its regional network infrastructure.
