Research agency IDC said HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise) has bagged major server deals from India’s telecom sector.
The latest server market report from IDC did not talk about the strong presence of server companies such as Dell, Huawei, Lenovo and Cisco Systems among telecom operators. The report also did not reveal specific server share in telecom segment, one of the main users of servers.
Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone India, BSNL and Reliance Jio are in the process of expanding their mobile Internet coverage across the country fuelled by strong demand for cost effective data plans among India’s young population. Making investment 4G network to boost data ARPU is the main focus areas for main telecom operators in India.
The market report said India’s server market revenue rose 33.7 percent to $354.8 million in Q1 2018 from $265.3 million in Q1 2017.
The x86 server market accounts for 92 percent of total server market in terms of revenue. Telecom operators, large IT, ITeS companies, banking and retail contribute to the growth of x86 server market.
The x86 server market revenue rose 33 percent to $326.3 million in Q1 2018 up from $245.3 million during Q1 2017. Professional services, telecommunications and manufacturing were the top three verticals accounting for 76.9 percent of the x86 server market.
Dell has a revenue market share of 28.3 percent in the Indian x86 server market as compared with 27.6 percent for HPE in Q1 2018. The other major technology vendors in the server space are Lenovo, Huawei and Cisco India.
“DX initiatives across industry’s demand robust infrastructure to support application and data availability, and resource utilization are some of the crucial factors which would continue to fuel the growth of the server market in 2018,” said Harshal Udatewar, market analyst, Server, IDC India.
