Telecom Lead Europe: DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network
Technology to Europe), an operator of networks for research and education, has
selected Infinera for the pan-European GEANT network.
DANTE is operating GEANT network on behalf of Europe’s
national research and education networks (NRENs).
The new Infinera DTN-X platform to deliver the
scalability, simplicity and efficiency demanded by researchers conducting
advanced scientific experiments.
Infinera products include the DTN platform, powered by
100 Gb/s PICs and designed to scale up to 6.4 Tb/s of transmission capacity per
fiber; the Infinera ATN, a metro WDM transport platform; and Infinera Managed
Services for global service and support.

accelerate the pace of important research and are leading indicators of how
next-generation networks will be built,” said Tom Fallon, chief executive
officer of Infinera.
The Infinera DTN-X platform enables GEANT’s optical
network to support multi-terabit transmission, connecting 17 major European
cities in 16 countries across 12,000 kilometers of fiber. GEANT connects 40
million researchers and millions of students in over 8,000 institutions across
40 countries.
The optical layer of GEANT’s network transports massive
amounts of data to support experiments and applications that are crucial to
academic research.
LHC, one of the largest scientific experiments in the
world, generates about 25 petabytes of data per year.
The Infinera DTN-X platform will deliver long-reach 500
Gb/s FlexCoherent super-channels across routes on GÉANT’s network such as the
1,240 km Frankfurt to Copenhagen route, scaling the capacity of the network
while lowering operational costs.
The DTN-X consumes less power and space, because of the
disruptive nature of Infinera’s unique 500 Gb/s photonic integrated circuits
(PICs), making the platform more efficient than alternatives on the market
today and lowering the overall total cost of ownership.
